Closing That Chapter
Just hearing that title alone “Closing That Chapter” sounds absolutely scary and exhilarating at the same time. What does that even mean for you? For some it's about ending relationships- be it as "we still friends, right" kind or the "romantic dinner turned awkward silence" type or maybe that closed chapter for you is that job you constantly complain about to that one co-worker who lives by the line of "I can't wait to win the lotto- is today Wednesday so that I can play the Powerball". We've all had our "Closing That Chapter" moment. Mine was closed twice, but the result ended in growth.
My first closed chapter was January 2023. This was the day I took the leap and moved to the most amazing city…(if I may say)… Charlotte. I was closing the door on my life as I knew it in Florida. But when asked, "why Charlotte?" My answer always resulted in "My visa expired from Spain during COVID and I never renewed it or I told myself I'd live here someday while escaping Florida during a hurricane". Now, if you're a Floridan reading this, you're probably laughing because we all know.... When there's a hurricane in Florida it simply means it's time to pull out your kayaks and beach chairs because it's just an excuse to have a day off of work. Shout-out to Florida for that hurricane that year. Not only was that moment in time such an impactful moment, but when I vowed to myself "I'd live here," little did I know my dreams would come true FIVE years later. Yup, FIVE years later. That was the first chapter in my book that I boldly slammed shut.
My second "Closing That Chapter" moment was a bitter-sweet mocktail, with a twist of nostalgia and a splash of excitement. As I stated, I uprooted my life in Florida and replanted it in Charlotte. Leaving everything I knew. PAUSE for a word of encouragement: if you're scared to close that chapter or take that leap, please do it. Once you've taken that jump, you'll look back and wonder what took you so long. Now back to my closed chapter haha. I recently said goodbye to the first place I called home here. In April 2024 I purchased my first home here in Charlotte which meant saying goodbye to my apartment in the city. Talk about a mixed bag of emotions. I will always be my authentic self and keep it real, so let me tell you, that was the HARDEST chapter to close. Do you know what this means? Big girl responsibilities.. google it haha.
However, on a positive note, It’s a blessing to have such an amazing new home, but the reality that my old home is now just a memory hit me hard. It's like your favorite pair of jeans that finally gives out—you're excited for the new pair, but oh, the memories! But hey, here's to new beginnings and new stories in my new home!
And to leave you with some wise words by Nicki Minaj and Rihanna: I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive. I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise.... go ahead and finish the rest
TO FLYYYYYYYY!!!
